Gilding |
||||||||||
I trained under a Master Gilder. Personally, I enjoy gilding very much. All the stages of gilding are so traditional and are so skilled that I find it a very satisfying part of restoration and building. I think that people have lost interest in gilding and what lies behind it as ornament on pieces. People are maybe less concerned these days that their furnishings make a bold statement about them. Gilding that is burnished produces a huge, vibrant colour that can not be matched by painted surfaces. I don't get enough gilding work. As a result you may be pleasantly surprised at the pricing that I might offer for conservation or restoration of a piece. For those who have an interest in the art, I use water-based size and typically Gold or White Gold leaf. I can obtain leaf of any prevailing type to match existing pieces. I am also happy to repair antique mirrors, those prior to the use of Mercury for their reflective surface. Mark Adams
